Nevena
began working at DCM two years ago as a Customer Care
Agent, a low-skilled, entry level position taking calls
from customers. Nevena has received a significant amount
of training at DCM, from her supervisor and through
outside seminars. Nevena was recently promoted to Back-Office
Manager of Customer Care, and she now manages four people.
Because of her limited education, Nevena is convince
that she would have been unable to secure such a position
had it not been for DCM’s willingness to train
her and promote her from within. As a result of the
promotion, her salary has increased by 40% per month.
Nevena hopes to stay at DCM and continue developing
her career.
Boyan
has worked at DCM for two years, as a Network Technician,
one of about 30 employees who install and service cable
connections for customers. Boyan has a secondary school
degree, and the position is considered semi-skilled.
Before coming to DCM he worked for a utility company,
but left because they did not pay his salary on time.
While his salary here at DCM is slightly lower, it has
growth potential and is reliable, which is very important
to him. With this certainty and potential, he can consistently
provide for his family and plan for the future. Recently
he was able to buy a used car, something he has wanted
for his family for a long time. Boyan said that his
former colleagues continue to have problems with getting
paid, so he is thankful for his job at DCM.
Vjecko,
an engineering university graduate, joined Perpetuum
three years ago as a System Engineer, earning 2,000
HRK more per month than at his previous job. Shortly
after starting he was promoted and today is the leader
of the department. He now earns 20% more than when he
started. He is very happy with his job and appreciates
the professional and stimulating atmosphere. What he
likes best about a small company like Perpetuum is that
one person can really have an effect on the company.
Outside the workplace, he lives with his wife and three
daughters in an apartment in Zagreb which he owns. He
and his wife each have a car (his is a company car)
and they are saving for retirement through a life insurance
plan. This lifestyle is rather atypical for a Croatian
family, and in fact represents what is the goal of many
working Croatians.
Marija
has been working at Perpetuum for five years. Having
started as an intern, she has quickly moved up through
the ranks and today is the head of the Application Department.
Her salary has likewise increased, almost doubling.
Perpetuum is helping her to buy a car, by providing
her with an interest free loan. She saves money in a
bank account and likewise contributes each month to
a life insurance plan and a “special housing account”
that is matched by the government to save for a down
payment. She very much enjoys her work and has a great
deal of confidence in Perpetuum’s continued expansion,
and her ability to grow further within the company.
Alex
has come a long way since joining Gica four years ago.
At the time, Macedonia was in crisis and he did not
have a stable income. He decided to take a chance and
knocked on Gica’s door to ask for a job. It turned
out that he was the type of serious, hard-working person
Gica’s mangers were looking for, so they hired
him.
Alex started as a worker on one of Gica’s chicken
farms, was moved to the egg packing section, and later
became a driver. Along the way, Alex picked up a broad
knowledge of the Gica business and was able to demonstrate
his dedication and productivity. He also benefited from
on-the-job training with Gica veterinarians and a formal
training session on Gica’s Omega-3 eggs. As a
result, he was promoted two years ago to manager of
the egg warehouse. As a manager, he continues to build
his skills. He had never used computers before this
position and now runs warehouse reports on the computer
all the time.
Today Alex makes almost twice as much as he did before
joining Gica. It is now much easier for him to support
his parents and his wife, who are all unemployed and
unable to find work. He has also been able to buy some
furniture for his home, make minor renovations, buy
a computer for his family, and even spend a bit more
on pleasure. In the end, he’s very happy he knocked
on the door, as Gica really changed his life.
